Localization

Language localization is a process of adapting written content to linguistic, cultural and sociological specificities of the target market. It gives a product the look and feel that it was created specifically for a target market.

Although translation and localization may seem alike, sometimes language localization is more comprehensive and complex process due to the fact that it involves semantic and extratextual of content adaptation and it includes extensive research of target culture to adapt the product to local needs.

Aside from translation, a localization strategy may also include: adapting graphics to target markets, modifying content to suit the tastes and consumption habits of other markets, adapting design and layout to properly display translated text, converting to local requirements (such as currencies and units of measure), using proper local formats for dates, addresses, and phone numbers and addressing local regulations and legal requirements.
